This award commemorates the legacy of Professor Donald McLarty, a renowned physician whose tireless efforts and dedication to improving the lives of patients with diabetes left an indelible mark on the medical community.

The Ilondo Mbelenge Mapoko Young Achievers Prize and Lecture
The Ilondo Mbelenge Mapoko Prize is given by the East Africa Diabetes Study Group (EADSG) in recognition to research which has been carried out by a person normally residing in East Africa, as manifested by publications which contribute to the advancement of knowledge concerning endocrinology and diabetes.
It is traditionally seen as the most prestigious East African Prize in the field of Endocrinology and diabetes research. The prize consists of a Memento and USD 5,000 (Five Thousand USD). The candidate must be less than 45 years of age by January of the year of the award. Self-nomination is possible.
